Huge swell from Hurricane Epsilon hitting the west Huge swell from Hurricane Epsilon hitting the west coast yesterday evening. There were so many power cuts that I gave up on work and went out for a breezy stroll! Just up the coastline around the same time, @conormaguiree was surfing one of the largest waves ever ridden in Ireland...
The mountains in Mayo and Galway separated by Kill The mountains in Mayo and Galway separated by Killlary Fjord. Freshwater mixing with the Atlantic ocean in this 16km flooded valley gives rise to some really special habitats. Imagine if the mountains were still covered in trees (instead of the sheep), it would look just like fiordland in New Zealand!

A few hours condensed into one photograph. The stars rotate around the celestial south pole because of the spin of the earth.

A few hours of the earth rotating viewed from Kakanui. This was our local beach during our field season in New Zealand last year. The tide receding and the milkyway rising over a few hours.

Laguna Paron is the largest lake in Huascaran National park. We did a small hike from the road up to a viewpoint at 4,200m to get this view looking down on the beautiful turquoise water. At that altitude just a twenty minute a hike was surprisingly hard! All around us we were surrounded by snow-capped peaks and crumbling glaciers. Piramide, is the perfect peak on the far side of the lake (@lyndsayfw claims it’s the paramount mountain, but I’m not convinced..)

The Incan site at Moray was definitely one of the coolest things we saw in Peru. These incredible circular terraces are thought to have been some sort of experimental lab for agriculture. Because of the design and orientation with the sun there is a huge temperature variation (over 10 degrees!) between the top and
bottom terraces. Some archaeologists think that the Incas tested soils and crops from different parts of their empire here to try and figure out the most productive crops for different regions. Pretty mind-blowing stuff..

Spending practically all of my time indoors at the moment has given me time to catch up on a back-log of photo editing - going back a couple of years. This image was taken during a winter surf trip. I won’t be getting back in the water anytime soon sadly but staying at home makes sense right now. I hope you’re all safe and sane!

New Zealand’s unique wildlife is one of my favourite things about the country! There are so many wonderfully weird creatures there, like these cheeky forest parrots called Kaka. During a hike in fiordland we came across a little flock of these guys and watched them for half an hour. They hopped around from tree to tree above our heads acting like clowns. They were imitating the calls of other birds in the forest and sneaking up and surprising each other!
